With the launch of the MacBook Pro 2018 we should hopefully see some price cuts coming to the 2017 models soon.
RAM 2017 MAC PRO PLUS
The 13-inch MacBook Pro 2018 comes with integrated graphics, Iris Plus 655 with 128MB of eDRAM, which is a leap over last year’s offering. The 15-inch MacBook Pro 2018 also gets Radeon Pro discrete graphics with 4GB of video memory, and while we don’t have the exact specifications just yet, that will either match or exceed the AMD Radeon Pro 555 and Radeon Pro 560, with up to 4GB of VRAM, found in the 15-inch MacBook Pro 2017. While 16GB of RAM may be plenty for many people, if you’re working on very demanding tasks the MacBook Pro 2018’s extra memory will certainly be a worthwhile investment. The MacBook Pro 2018 will also support up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, double the maximum amount of the MacBook Pro 2017. The MacBook Pro 2017 models feature 7th-generation Intel Core processors, and these Kaby Lake chips are still great little performers, but on paper the gap between the MacBook Pro 2017 and MacBook Pro 2018 is pretty huge.

These are also 8th-generation chips, and will provide twice the performance of last year’s model, which Apple says is “ideal for manipulating large data sets, performing complex simulations, creating multi-track audio projects, or doing advanced image processing or film editing”. Meanwhile, the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2018 gets quad-core Intel Core i5 and i7 processors up to 2.7 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 4.5 GHz.
RAM 2017 MAC PRO UPGRADE
That’s a huge performance boost, so if you use your MacBook Pro for heavy-duty tasks and multi-tasking, the upgrade may well be worth it. So you get 8th-generation Intel Core processors, with the 15-inch version getting a choice of 6-core Intel Core i7 or Core i9 processors up to 2.9 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 4.8 GHz.Īccording to Apple, this will provide up to 70% faster performance over the MacBook Pro 2017. Those users will apparently need to keep on the lookout for more information on when they can think about upgrading as well. This is where the MacBook Pro 2018 and MacBook Pro 2017 really diverge, as Apple has packed some of the latest, and most powerful, components available today into its latest notebook. Notably, the Apple desktop line hasn’t received any rumored updates other than earlier Apple statements providing assurances that the company hasn’t forgotten about their iMac customers. That’s all good news for anyone who passed on upgrading to the 2016 MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro models should also begin receiving Intel’s 7th-generation processors starting in the third quarter 2017. Other updates include a refreshed 12-inch MacBook set to begin production in the second quarter of 2017, with an upgrade to 16GB RAM available but otherwise looking the same as the previous model. If the report is correct, then the highly spec’d machine will go into production in the fourth quarter of 2017.
RAM 2017 MAC PRO PROFESSIONAL
So far, that’s been the specification that’s likely cost Apple the most goodwill among its professional customers. The potential upgrade that will be of most interest to power users is a 32GB RAM option in a “significantly redesigned” 15-inch MacBook Pro. Apparently, all MacBooks are due for at least minor updates that should bring some welcome improvements.

And it looks like Apple may indeed be planning to give professional Mac users the larger RAM that they’ve been craving, as ZDNet reports.Īccording to a research note that should likely be taken as a rumor at this point, Apple will be refreshing the MacBook line later in 2017. No, Apple’s not likely to put legacy expansion ports back into the machines, but things like battery life and more powerful components are real possibilities. There’s no reason to doubt that Apple will eventually rectify at least some of these problems. Things have been so uncharacteristically caustic that Apple executives have found themselves defending their design decisions. Fitbit Versa 3īill Roberson/Digital TrendsThe 2016 MacBook Pro has been a popular machine for Apple, but it has also generated user complaints about reduced battery life, lost expansion ports, and less-than-professional specifications.
